Is New Zealand like what we see in the movies?

Yes... and not always.

Many students come to New Zealand expecting it to be like what they've seen in movies with beautiful landscapes and colours and very few people. It really is THAT beautiful and with a population of only 5 million people, it has a lot of open space, natural beauty and yes, there are many cows and sheep!

On the other hand, Aotearoa, New Zealand, is a vibrant fusion of international culture, with campuses in cities throughout the country. From North to South, it is an exciting nation for students.

ISMNZ wants to introduce you to many aspects of New Zealand life. Aotearoa (the land of the long white cloud) was first discovered by the Māori people and the rich Polynesian/Pacific heritage can be enjoyed throughout the nation. The European migration also adds to New Zealand's richness, along with 20th and 21st century migrants from Asia-Pacific and around the globe.

We'd also like to let you know about New Zealand etiquette to help you feel more comfortable in social situations, and to explain a little about New Zealand food so you can be confident about what you're eating! Everything from temperature to bath style to bed style is different to many places in the world.

New Zealand has its own art and clothing styles, and we have holidays that may differ from what you've experienced. New Zealand is also quite good at recognising holiday celebrations from many other nations with cultural festivals and special celebrations throughout the year.
